I have been married to my wonderful husband Craig for over 20 years. We have 4 beautiful children and 2 adorable grandkids. There is also a very lazy dog Sassie and an elusive cat Nermal.
Nana Jennie's Home Daycare was opened because I couldn't find the daycare I wanted for my grandson. Having 8 years experience in a preschool and over 20 years as a mom, I had specific ideas in mind. I wanted him to have the structure of a preschool with the comforting atmosphere of a home. I also believe that nutrition is a very important part of a childs early learning. When we found out he had a food allergy I knew I had made the right choice.
Children thrive in a warm, nurturing environment. Daily activities such as arts, crafts, circle time and story time are based on a weekly curriculum. I provide activities for all age groups such as puzzles, blocks, musical instruments, imaginary play etc.to develop creativity and self-esteem. We go on lots of fun field trips that give us the opportunity to explore our world. There are delicious and nutritious homemade meals at Nana's. I use organic ingredients whenever possible. We are members of Coonamessett farm and part of their CSA program (Community Supported Agriculture) which means lots of organic, locally grown food. I try to teach the kids healthy eating habits and good food choices. I pick up 8+ lbs of food every Saturday from June- October, along with field trips to pick strawberries, raspberries and sometimes just to get fresh eggs. Its great for the kids to learn where our food comes from!
I also teach the kids family lessons such as sharing, cleaning up after ourselves, how to wash our hands and scrub our teeth. The older kids also learn patience, compassion and empathy by being around to help the younger kids and the babies learn new skills.
